The passage under the Chkalov staircase will be closed until September 14.

      On August 28, 2026, at 16:17 Society In Nizhny Novgorod, traffic will be temporarily restricted on the section of the Nizhnevolzhskaya embankment under the Chkalov staircase, the city administration reported. The restrictions will be in effect from 22:00 on August 31 to 23:59 on September 14. Warning signs and traffic signs prohibiting movement will be installed at the approaches to the closed section. Motorists will be able to bypass the closed section via the existing road between the Chkalov staircase and the square in front of the "Hero" boat. It should be noted that the arch's vault occasionally suffers from the passage of oversized vehicles. For instance, in July 2026, a truck got stuck in the archway, causing part of the plaster to collapse, and a noticeable dent was left on the arch itself. Now the arch requires decorative repairs.
