The killer of the pensioner from Gorodets was punished almost 23 years later.

      On August 13, 2026, at 16:45, Incidents: A man who committed murder in the Nizhny Novgorod region was punished nearly 23 years after the crime. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region. The crime occurred in December 2003 in the city. According to the investigation, a drunken man came to the apartment of an elderly woman on Republican Street. When the owner opened the door, he attacked her. It has been established that the convicted man struck the woman at least 17 times with his hands, feet, and a hammer on her head and body, and then strangled her. She died on the spot from the injuries sustained. After the murder, the perpetrator searched the apartment, stole a men's sheepskin coat, and fled. For a long time, his whereabouts remained unknown. Nevertheless, investigators and forensic experts were able to reconstruct the events, identify the suspect, and gather evidence of his guilt. Ultimately, the man fully confessed to his crime. The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison for this crime. Taking into account the partial consolidation of this sentence with the verdict issued by the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court in 2005, the man was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment. It should be noted that earlier in Nizhny Novgorod, a 36-year-old resident of Kstovo was sentenced. He was found guilty of murdering his wife with particular cruelty.
