Why the construction of the "Volga Arena" has increased in cost by 2.3 billion rubles

      The construction of the Ice Palace in Nizhny Novgorod has become more expensive due to rising prices for construction materials, broadcasting systems, and sound equipment, as well as other network equipment, reported NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" from the Regional Development Corporation.

      In addition, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the entrance groups have been expanded and additionally equipped with security systems.

      According to the requirements of the Continental Hockey League, the equipment of the hockey rink, stands, and medical block has also been supplemented.

      According to the publication "Kommersant-Privolzhye," the cost of the Palace contract has increased by 2.3 billion rubles and amounts to 25.2 billion rubles.

      Recall that the construction of the arena began in 2022. Initially, the completion of the work was planned for 2024, but then the deadlines were moved to 2026. Earlier, the budget for 2026-2028 included 4.6 billion rubles for the completion of the project.

      In July 2025, the new Ice Palace was assigned an official address, and in May 2026, it was named "Volga Arena" in honor of the revived automotive brand.

      It is planned that this summer the facility will be handed over to the hockey club "Torpedo."
