In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 8.5 million seedlings have been planted.
As a result of the spring forest cultivation season, more than 8.5 million seedlings were planted on the lands of the forest fund of the Nizhny Novgorod region, covering an area of 2,890 hectares. Of these, planting material with a closed root system was used on 860 hectares. The work was carried out as part of the regional project "Forest Conservation," which is part of the national project "Environmental Well-Being." "We are systematically working on the conservation and reproduction of the forest fund of the region, as well as maintaining a balance between logging and forest restoration in the Nizhny Novgorod region. All planned indicators for the spring period for forest restoration activities have been fully met, even with a slight over-fulfillment of 105%. A total of 14,442 hectares of forest restoration is planned for this year," noted Roman Vorobyov, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Forest plantations in the region are created using seedlings of coniferous tree species—spruce and pine—grown in the Semyonov special seed farm, a subordinate institution of the Ministry of Forestry. The enterprise performs the full cycle of work—from harvesting forest seed raw materials to obtaining planting material.
Also, as part of the implementation of the "Forest Conservation" project and the fulfillment of obligations by forest plot tenants, work is being carried out on combined and natural forest restoration.
Currently, forest users and government institutions have begun agronomic and forestry care for forest crops, which are planned for an area of more than 32,000 hectares.
Since 2025, a national project "Environmental Well-Being" has been in effect in Russia by order of President Vladimir Putin, which implements tasks previously provided for in the national project "Ecology." It includes federal projects "General Cleanup," "Water of Russia," "Conservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism," "Forest Conservation," "Closed Cycle Economy," and "Clean Air."
