In Nizhny Novgorod, doctors at the fifth city clinical hospital saved the life of a man with critical tracheal narrowing by performing a unique circular resection. This was reported in his Max channel by the editor-in-chief of the MIA "Stationary Press," Alexey Nikonov. The 40-year-old patient, after a severe pancreatitis and being on a ventilator, faced a dangerous complication—scar stenosis of the trachea. The man's airways narrowed to critical sizes, causing choking attacks. Previously, in similar cases, such patients were given a lifelong tracheostomy. Initially, the Nizhny Novgorod resident planned to go for surgery in Moscow, but during the document collection process, his condition sharply deteriorated, making transportation to the capital impossible.
As the head of the thoracic surgery department at GKB No. 5, Dmitry Furzikov, explained, the multidisciplinary team of doctors at GKB No. 5 acted urgently. First, the surgeons expanded the lumen endoscopically, and the next day performed a complex reconstructive surgery: they removed the narrowed section and meticulously stitched the trachea. It is noted that this is only the second such intervention in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Thanks to the successful operation, the man can now breathe independently and has already been discharged from the hospital.
