A resident of Nizhny Novgorod was accused of rehabilitating Nazism due to comments on social media.

      June 17, 2026 14:40 Incidents A 54-year-old man from Nizhny Novgorod has become a suspect in a criminal case regarding the rehabilitation of Nazism. The investigation is being conducted by the Balakhna inter-district investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the investigation, in February and March of this year, the man left comments on one of the social networks in which he denied the crimes established by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal regarding the main war criminals of the European Axis countries. According to the expert's conclusion, the published posts contain linguistic and psychological signs of the rehabilitation of Nazism.

      The criminal case was initiated based on materials received from the regional FSB office and the Center for Countering Extremism of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod region. The man has currently been placed under a measure of restraint in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior. The investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the incident and gather evidence. It was previously reported that in Shakhunya, a man accused of murdering the son of a former Nizhny Novgorod deputy disappeared before the verdict was announced.
