The First Deputy Chairman of the VTB Management Board, Dmitry Pyanov, formulated five basic principles for those who are just entering the stock market. He discussed this in an interview with RIA Novosti. The first and key principle, according to the banker, is understanding the direct relationship between risk and return. "Risks and benefits are interconnected - if you want to earn quickly and a lot, be ready to lose everything. What deters a novice investor from the market? It's the unwillingness to accept loss," warned the top manager. The second piece of advice concerns psychological resilience. Pyanov advises every novice investor to honestly answer the question in advance: how will they react to a portfolio drop of 20, 30, 50, or even 70%? "A novice investor in the stock market should start with the psychology of losses rather than the psychology of gains," he explained. The third principle is formulated succinctly and classically: buy cheap, sell dear. The fourth is to gradually master the analysis of the fundamental indicators of issuers. According to Pyanov, these indicators determine the asset's return not in the short term, but in the medium term. The fifth piece of advice is diversification.
