The Ministry of Emergency Situations told Nizhny Novgorod residents how to grill shashlik at the dacha without consequences.

June 11, 2026 14:37 Society Summer is traditionally considered the season for picnics, barbecues, and outdoor relaxation. However, cooking over an open fire requires adherence to basic safety rules. At a press conference at the regional emergency management office, Sergey Bolshakov, the deputy chief state inspector for fire supervision in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a colonel of the internal service, spoke about how to avoid fires and accidents while grilling shashlik. According to the agency representative, the first step is to choose the right location for setting up the grill. It should be at least 7.5 meters away from the nearest buildings. Additionally, there should be no flammable materials within a two-meter radius of the grill. "We must understand that there should be some primary fire extinguishing means nearby. At a minimum, a bucket of water should be placed. Ideally, of course, have a fire extinguisher," noted Sergey Bolshakov. Another important recommendation is to always keep a mobile phone handy. If an emergency situation arises, this will allow for a quick call to the fire department. The emergency management agency pays special attention to the safety of children. According to Sergey Bolshakov, almost every year, cases are recorded in the region where minors suffer burns while relaxing in nature or in their backyards. Most often, injuries occur because adults become engrossed in cooking and leave children unsupervised near the grill. "They either tip the grill over onto themselves or fall onto it while playing," said the emergency management representative. Flammable liquids for lighting pose a particular danger. According to Sergey Bolshakov, children sometimes use them independently or pour them into an already burning grill. As a result, a sudden flare-up of flames can occur, leading to serious burns and other severe injuries. In this regard, the emergency management agency urges parents not to leave children unsupervised near fire and to prevent them from accessing lighting liquids. Rescuers remind us: following a few simple rules can make relaxation safe. The grill should be set up at a sufficient distance from buildings, the area around it should be cleared of flammable materials, fire extinguishing means should be prepared in advance, and children should be constantly monitored. These measures will help prevent fires and keep relaxation enjoyable and safe. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
