High-speed trains "Finist" are planned to be launched from Nizhny Novgorod in 2027.

These plans were discussed on June 11 at a meeting of the regional Legislative Assembly's committee on transport and road management, the press service of the ZSNO reported. Deputies reviewed how suburban transportation operates today and what awaits it in the coming years. Currently, suburban services are provided by the Volga-Vyatka Suburban Passenger Company. In 2025, the volume of transportation in the region amounted to 25.2 million car-kilometers, and passenger turnover reached 615 million passenger-kilometers — this is 1.2% more than in 2024. In 2026, the figure is planned to increase to 623 million. They specifically focused on updating trains. Together with Russian Railways, the launch of fully domestic trains is being considered. This concerns the dual-system high-speed electric trains ES-105 "Finist," which may operate on the routes Nizhny Novgorod - Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod - Shakhunya. The use of autonomous diesel trains DP2D on the Nizhny Novgorod - Pavlovo route is also being discussed.

"Suburban transportation is daily transport for tens of thousands of residents of the region. The company is developing, passenger turnover is growing, digital services are being implemented, and the renewal of rolling stock is planned. It is important that domestic developments and passenger comfort are prioritized. Deputies will keep this issue under constant control," he noted. The head of the relevant committee, Vladimir Soldatenkov, added that it is also important to further expand the route network and make trips more convenient. According to him, the company is developing ticket sales, including through mobile applications, and is also working on transfer tariffs and synchronizing schedules with urban transport. Earlier, it was reported that Governor Gleb Nikitin appealed to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev with a request to support the project to extend the city electric train to Kstovo.
