Fishing at the Gorky Reservoir has been restricted until mid-June.

      April 16, 2026 14:58 Society From April 15, restrictions on fishing have been implemented on the Gorky Reservoir, its tributaries, and in the lakes of the Nizhny Novgorod region. At the same time, a complete ban on industrial fishing has been introduced. The restrictions will last until June 16, as reminded by the regional Ministry of Forestry.

      These measures are related to the spawning period. During this time, it is important to create conditions for the natural reproduction of fish resources. The ministry emphasized that the temporary restrictions are a fundamentally important measure: they help preserve fish stocks and foster a responsible attitude towards natural resources.

      Recreational fishing in the region is regulated by the rules for the Volga-Caspian fishery basin. A list of spawning areas is established in a separate appendix and published on the official website of the agency.

      During the ban, the use of spinning in the Nizhny Novgorod region is completely prohibited—regardless of whether the water body belongs to spawning zones. Only recreational fishing from the shore outside such areas is allowed. At the same time, a float or bottom fishing rod with a maximum of two hooks can be used.

      There is also a catch limit—no more than 5 kilograms per day per angler.

      Violating the rules entails administrative responsibility. Citizens face fines ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 rubles, and confiscation of vessels and fishing gear is possible.

      In the case of illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources, criminal liability arises. This includes fines from 300,000 to 500,000 rubles, or the recovery of income for a period of two to three years, as well as corrective labor or imprisonment for up to two years.
