The sale of alcohol is proposed to be tightened in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      April 16, 2026 13:29 Society The Communists in the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Duma have prepared a draft amendment to the regional law on the regulation of the production and circulation of ethyl alcohol. The draft has been submitted for public discussion. According to the initiative, it is proposed to completely ban the retail sale of alcohol in residential buildings and attached premises. The restriction should also apply to catering establishments. The explanatory note to the document emphasizes that so-called "pouring places" and shot bars in residential buildings can pose a threat to the life and health of citizens, especially at night. It was previously reported that alcohol consumption in the Nizhny Novgorod region fell by 14.6%.
