      On April 13, 2026, at 14:13, Society In Vetluga, a competition has been announced for the improvement of the historical center of the city. This is reported on the state procurement website. The project "City - Vetluga - River" is aimed at the comprehensive improvement of the historical center as part of the All-Russian competition for the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment. The customer is MBU "Our City." The initial cost of the contract is 131.3 million rubles. The improvement will cover an area of 2.89 hectares within the boundaries of Lenin, Aleshkov, and Bakhirev streets, as well as May 1 Square with adjacent public spaces. The project includes the renovation of the central part of the square, the creation of a recreation area for youth, modernization of the children's playground, and the establishment of a sports zone. It is also planned to arrange sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots, install small architectural forms, and public toilets. The total area of new coverings will be about 9,500 square meters. Landscaping of the area is planned — planting trees and more than a thousand shrubs, creating lawns and flower beds. The contractor will be determined at the end of April. The work is expected to be completed by November 16, 2026. It was previously reported that as part of the "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment" program, the improvement in Nizhny Novgorod will affect seven public spaces.
