More than half a meter of snow fell in Nizhny Novgorod over three days of heavy snowfall, a record amount. During that time, 103,000 cubic meters of snow were removed, far exceeding figures from previous years, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev said on his social media.
More than 1,350 units of snow-removal equipment have been deployed to combat the effects of the storm, along with over 3,500 road workers and street cleaners working around the clock. Particular attention is being paid to cleaning residential courtyard areas, which is overseen by the Administrative-Technical Inspection. The condition of sidewalks and access to pedestrian crossings is under separate supervision by the city administration.
However, Shalabaev noted that despite all efforts, there are places where paths have been cleared down to the asphalt, while in other areas a slushy mess has formed.
"The snow in Nizhny continues to fall, and we continue to work," the mayor emphasized.
According to the Upper Volga Department of the Hydrometeorological Center, heavy snowfall and icy conditions are expected in the Nizhny Novgorod region and Nizhny Novgorod from January 10 to 11.
Earlier, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" found out where Nizhny Novgorod residents can report poor snow removal and where to turn for all urgent issues — heating, electricity supply, and other problems.
