Nizhny Novgorod farmers put more than 8,000 hectares of fallow land into use in 2025, the regional government press service said.
Under a state program, compensation covering 50% of the costs of grubbing and plowing is provided to agricultural producers who bring unused land into cultivation. In 2025, eight organizations received compensation totaling more than 35.5 million rubles.
As the region’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Resources, Nikolai Denisov, reported, more than 200,000 hectares of agricultural land have been put into use in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast over the past 10 years.
The regional Ministry of Agriculture also provides an increased subsidy for the purchase of specialized equipment. To qualify, agricultural producers must increase their sowing areas by at least 300 hectares. The amount of compensation ranges from 5 to 6.5 million rubles depending on the farm’s specialization. Subsidies can be obtained for the purchase of tractors with engines of at least 150 hp, as well as combine harvesters and self-propelled forage harvesters.
