Residents of Nizhny Novgorod have expressed their dissatisfaction with plans to build a large Wildberries marketplace warehouse in the Novinki area. In an open letter to the company's founder, Tatyana Kim, published on social media, they demanded a more transparent dialogue from the investor.
The letter was signed by residents of the Oksky Bereg residential complex as well as residents of the villages of Kusakovka, Kudma, Komarovo and Novopavlovka. They recalled that Tatyana Kim had previously appealed to the state, calling for a constructive dialogue to develop the country's economy. However, in the residents' view, that appeal has not been heard in their case.
"The very 'constructive dialogue' that you demand for business at the federal level, your own company refuses to hold with us, the citizens," the appeal reads.
The residents emphasized that construction provoking such a mass protest could cause serious damage to the company's reputation. They noted that Wildberries' customers are not only those who place orders, but also the people in whose yards construction is planned.
In their letter, the residents asked to take the dialogue to a new level, not limiting it to a one-off meeting, to begin discussing unresolved legal issues, and to demand full transparency and guarantees from regional authorities that construction will not begin without providing all necessary approvals to residents.
They also urged Tatyana Kim to consider alternative locations for the logistics center that align with principles of social responsibility.
Recall that a large Wildberries logistics complex is planned for Novinki. The regional government's position on the matter was voiced by Governor Gleb Nikitin during a direct line in November. According to him, jobs in the territories of the new residential complexes in the south of the region should be prioritized for local residents. "We cannot squander such investors, who will play a huge role in the region's economy," he emphasized.
