According to the Upper Volga Department of the Hydrometeorological Center, heavy snowfall and icy conditions are expected in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the city of Nizhny Novgorod from January 10 to 11.
These weather conditions may lead to dangerous and emergency situations, the Crisis Management Center of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Nizhny Novgorod Region warned.
There is a risk of traffic congestion on federal, regional and local roads, possible disruptions to road and utility services, and an increase in the number of road traffic accidents.
Airport operations may also be disrupted: Sheremetyevo Airport is already temporarily closed due to heavy snowfall, and some flights have been diverted to Nizhny Novgorod.
Increased snow loads may lead to the collapse of building elements and structures.
In this regard, residents should observe precautions: keep away from building walls and facades, avoid areas where overhanging snow or icicles may form, and do not approach places where snow is being cleared from roofs.
In addition, it is recommended to limit the use of private vehicles and, if possible, refrain from traveling around the city. If you must drive, maintain a safe distance, travel at a moderate speed and avoid sudden braking.
Earlier, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" reported where residents can notify authorities about poor snow clearing and where to turn for all urgent issues – heating, power supply and other problems.
