Inspectors are monitoring a lone swan spotted in Volodarsky District.

      Inspectors of the regional Ministry of Forestry are monitoring the condition of a lone swan that was spotted in Volodarsky District. This was reported to pravda-nn.ru by the relevant ministry.

      Earlier, a reader of the website contacted the newsroom and said that the day before fishermen had found a swan on the Yuganets River in Volodarsk. Local residents are worried about the bird’s fate: they fear the swan may freeze or become prey for wild animals.

      According to eyewitnesses, the fishermen tried to help the bird but were unable to save it.

      The ministry told journalists that they are aware of this swan. Inspectors are observing the bird from a distance and note that no external signs of injuries or disease have been detected so far.

      It is currently impossible to catch the swan: for that to happen, a solid ice cover needs to form on the body of water. Only after that will specialists be able to remove the bird with a net and transport it either to temporary care or to a non-freezing waterbody. For now, ministry staff continue daily monitoring of the situation.

      The Ministry of Forestry reminded that swans are among the last birds to fly south. “Their feathers are coated with oil, which allows the birds to withstand low temperatures and feel fine in icy water. Also, if there is open water, a swan can overwinter in our region,” specialists explained.

      Earlier it was reported that a young swan was rescued in the Shakhunsky District after becoming trapped on a freezing river.
