      On November 21, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, shared his experience of public service with students from regional universities during the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Open Day. More than 200 students from leading universities of the Volga Region’s capital took part in the career guidance event.

      “The choice of a profession you face today is truly a responsible step. I myself was once a student and understand how difficult it is to make this decision. My entire working career has been connected with public service, and I have never once regretted my choice. Public service is not just a job. It is a mission that allows you to directly influence the life of a city, a village, a region and the country. Here decisions turn into concrete results: new roads, modern schools, real support for those who need it,” Gleb Nikitin said to the students.

      The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region spoke about the internships and practical placements available in the regional government. In 2025, 350 students took part in such programs, and 130 young specialists were employed after completing their internships. Specifically for civil servants, the Corporate University of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region (KUPNO), together with the regional Ministry of Personnel Policy, has developed training programs aimed at personal professional growth and the development of corporate culture within teams.

      “If you act consciously, you will undoubtedly build a successful path. I wish you not to make strategic mistakes, to take pleasure in being able to be useful not only to yourselves but also to others. Forward only!” Gleb Nikitin added.

      The Open Day was organized by the Ministry of Personnel Policy of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      “Working with young people is one of the ministry’s key areas. We carry out systematic work to inform students about opportunities for development in public service — from internships to employment. It is important for us not just to attract a young specialist, but to create all the conditions for them to stay and work with us for a long time. We are ready to teach and pass on experience,” noted Elena Amosova, Acting Minister of Personnel Policy of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      According to the Ministry of Personnel Policy, mechanisms for internships have been developed to attract young specialists into the public administration system and for subsequent employment. To take part in them, students can use a single entry platform — the regional state information system “Portal ‘Team of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region’.”

      In addition, to boost youth recruitment into executive authorities, the regional Ministry of Personnel Policy is developing a career guidance program for 2026 called “Welcome to the Team of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region!” It envisages increasing the effectiveness of existing formats for working with students, expanding the network of partner universities, and seeking new mechanisms aimed at forming a positive image of the state civil service.

      Students from seven universities took part in the Open Day: N.I. Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University (NNSU), N.A. Dobrolyubov Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University (NGLU), Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management — a branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), the Russian State University of Justice, Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (NNGASU), R.E. Alekseev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, and K. Minin Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University. Students attended a meeting with regional government leaders and took part in master classes where they received practical advice on career development. For example, Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, emphasized the importance of continuous learning and participation in projects and spoke about her work on developing the region’s international ties. Vladimir Tuzhilin, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, shared his experience in public administration and described environmental projects being implemented in the region, including under the national project “Environmental Well-Being.” Darya Shunaeva, Minister of Urban Development and Agglomeration Development, spoke about the regional government’s work on urban planning policy.

      Participants were also given a tour of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin and introduced to the historical and administrative center of the region. Organizers noted that the event was an important step in strengthening the regional government’s personnel potential and forming a talent pool from among promising young people.
