Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has topped the ranking of Russian regions with the lowest level of official unemployment. As Governor Gleb Nikitin told entrepreneurs at a meeting on November 19, as of November 12 only 150 people were registered at local employment centers. This is a historic minimum — only 0.01% of the working-age population.
For comparison: in January 2020 this figure was 0.4%, and in September of the same year — 3.6%. Over several years the region has managed to achieve an impressive decline.
However, the region still faces a serious problem — an acute shortage of personnel. As the governor noted, the number of vacancies is growing much faster than the number of people seeking work.
“In two years the number of vacancies has doubled, supply has grown by only 28%, and at the moment the level of registered unemployment is at a historic minimum for recent years,” the head of the region emphasized.
One of the causes of this imbalance has been the demographic situation. The governor called on company leaders to consider additional payments for employees who have children.
It should be recalled that the region already has a special demographic program, "Osnova." It includes a wide range of financial and non-financial support measures to achieve the goals of the national projects "Long and Active Life" and "Family." Since July 1 Nizhny Novgorod residents have had access to a "parental salary" and the "Gift to the Newborn" certificate.
Earlier reports said that retail trade and healthcare continue to experience an acute shortage of personnel.
