      Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko thanked the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Gleb Nikitin, for active and effective work in the field of the region's demographic policy.

      "Thank you for the presentation, for the great work you are doing, and personally, as the head of the region, as governor, you deal with this issue on an ongoing basis. Now you have put on the 'leader's T‑shirt' — and you must live up to it, maintain the bar you have set," she said.

      Matvienko also emphasized that the successes of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in the field of demography can serve as a guide for other regions of the Russian Federation.

      Recall that, at the initiative of Governor Gleb Nikitin, a "Five-Year Family" has been declared in the region, which will last until 2030 and is aimed at stimulating fertility in the region. The program provides for an expansion of social support measures.

      Thus, from July 1 new support measures came into force in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Upon the birth of a child, a family can receive one million rubles.

      The region's demographic policy was also highly praised by President Vladimir Putin.
