Large families in Nizhny Novgorod may be allowed to park two cars for free.

      Large families in the Nizhny Novgorod Region are being offered the right to free parking for two vehicles. The corresponding bill has been introduced in the region's Legislative Assembly.

      As noted in the explanatory note, there is currently a provision in the Nizhny Novgorod Region under which free use of paid parking without time limits is available only for one vehicle belonging to one of the parents of a large family. However, the bill's authors believe that this measure no longer meets the needs of families with three or more children. They note that a standard five-seater car does not allow all members of a large family to be transported at the same time. This makes it difficult to visit cultural, sports and educational institutions, especially if they are located in different districts of the city.

      In this regard, it is proposed to amend Article 71 of the regional road traffic law so that, from January 1, 2026, large families would be able to park two vehicles for free.

      The chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin, commented on the bill on his social media. In his words, free parking for two vehicles belonging to a large family is not a luxury, but a necessity.

      He emphasized that after the launch of the "Basic Parental Income" project, many families began seriously considering having a fourth or fifth child. This, in turn, exacerbated the parking issue.

      "I believe we are obliged to support families with children by providing them with two free parking spaces. We will discuss this issue at the parliament session next week," he wrote.
