In October, songs dedicated to the work of teachers and caregivers are played during breaks in Nizhny Novgorod schools. Children are introduced to the work of Russian composers and performers as part of the nationwide campaign "Melodies Instead of Bells," which is being held for the second consecutive school year.

As the regional Ministry of Education and Science recalled, the project is being implemented by the Center for Comprehensive Child Development "Progress" with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation as part of the national project "Youth and Children." The campaign has received a great response in regions across the country: schoolchildren eagerly await what themes of songs will be chosen in the new month.

In October, the organizers chose musical works dedicated to Teacher’s Day. Children are getting acquainted with compositions such as "Teacher" (lyrics and music by Denis Maidanov), "Music of the Rain" and "First Teacher" (lyrics and music by Anna Petryasheva), "We Are a Team" (lyrics by Olga Serdtseva, music by Ekaterina Rogova), "A Song About Professions" (lyrics by Stanislav Minakov, music by Grigory Gladkov), "Smile" (lyrics by Stanislav Minakov, music by Ilya Shatsky), and "Honest Word" (lyrics and music by Natalia Ososhnik).

"In the autumn the education system celebrates many professional holidays. At the end of September we congratulate caregivers, in October — school teachers and additional education instructors, in November — higher education lecturers. The selection of musical pieces was made as a sign of respect for educators. It is very important that the children never miss an opportunity to thank their mentors, to express appreciation for their difficult and noble work," said Mikhail Puchkov, Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

As is customary, thematic lessons are held in the region’s schools as part of the campaign. Thus, at Secondary School No. 18 in Dzerzhinsk, the work of teachers and caregivers was discussed with students of all ages. On October 15 the opening lessons were held for students from the 7th and 3rd grades.

Seventh-graders had an unconventional Russian language and literature lesson. Teacher Arina Suslova conducted a semantic and systemic-functional analysis of the lyrics of Denis Maidanov’s song "Teacher."

"I really liked the lesson. We did not just listen to the song several times, but were able to get into its essence, to understand the hidden subtext. Already now I clearly understand that a school teacher is my mentor and a guide into the world of science. I am grateful to the teachers for presenting difficult material in an interesting and comprehensible way," shared student Dmitry Nikitin.

Primary school students attended a music lesson devoted to the analysis and performance of the song "Honest Word" (lyrics and music by Natalia Ososhnik). The children learned the song and talked about how important it is to be honest and to keep promises.

"The very essence of 'melodies instead of bells' is important — children happily shift their attention. It is a pleasant addition to the usual school routine, it decorates and inspires the children," emphasized Elena Fedorova, principal of Secondary School No. 18 in Dzerzhinsk.

Recall that the national project "Youth and Children" has been implemented by order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin since 2025 and includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia — the Land of Opportunities," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for a Generation of Leaders," and "Professionalitet."
