A pedophilia scandal at a sports school in Nizhny Novgorod has turned into a criminal case.

      October 2, 2025 11:27 Incidents — A scandal involving a boxing coach in Nizhny Novgorod has turned into a criminal case.

      Alleged unlawful actions by the sports instructor became known on September 30 thanks to a segment of the program "Kstati" (16+). The report claimed the man was suspected of pedophilia, and after the first signs of exposure appeared he disappeared.

      The incident that aroused suspicion occurred back in August. One of the young trainees told his parents that the coach, while intoxicated, undressed him and tried to commit lewd acts. The boy managed to break free and run away. After that the parents sought help from other coaches, and together they began to study footage from surveillance cameras in the sports halls where the suspect had previously worked. In one of the clubs, archival recordings from 2023 revealed an episode in which the coach, allegedly drunk, forces another boy to undress and commits sexual acts against him. All of this, it is claimed, is captured on video.

      "For more than a month people who know about what happened have been trying to get a criminal case opened, but it hasn't been, and so people turned to our editorial office asking us to publicize all this," said the host of "Kstati."

      As became known on October 1, the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Nizhny Novgorod region opened a criminal case. It is reported that the progress of the investigation is under the supervision of the chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin.

      The specific article of the criminal code under which the case was opened was not named. It was only noted that the television segment about the coach's unlawful actions against a minor served as the reason for initiating the investigation.

      That same evening a new segment aired claiming the suspect may have been engaging in intimate relations with trainees for more than 20 years.
