One in five pensioners in the Nizhny Novgorod region continues to work.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 194.2 thousand pensioners are employed, that is almost one in five. At the beginning of 2025 the number of working pensioners increased by 4.9%, Nizhny Novgorodstat reported for the International Day of Older Persons.

      As of January 1, 965 thousand pensioners lived in the region, which constitutes 31.7% of the population. Over the year their number decreased by 1,900 people.

      Among pension recipients, 84.3% are old-age pensioners. Another 6.7% receive social pensions, 5.1% receive disability pensions, and 3.5% receive survivor’s pensions due to the loss of a breadwinner. The average pension at the beginning of the year was almost 23.1 thousand rubles.

      Among working pensioners, 86.8% receive old-age pensions, 9% receive disability pensions, and 3% receive social pensions.

      According to Nizhny Novgorodstat, among women over 60 years old, 25.1% are employed in education, 18.5% in healthcare and social services, 13.4% each in trade and manufacturing, 7.6% in agriculture, and 3.8% in culture and sports.

      Among men over 65, 27.7% work in manufacturing, 17.4% in agriculture, 13% in education, 7.1% in healthcare and social services, 6.9% in transportation and storage, and 5.2% in construction.

      Recall that until October 10 the Decade of the Elderly is being held in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Social institutions have prepared more than 250 events (0+) for older adults.
