At the venue of the Corporate University of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the ceremonial opening of the educational program "Active Longevity. Nizhny Novgorod Region" of the national project "Family" took place. Three hundred residents of the region aged 55 and over are taking part in it.
The ceremony was attended by Senator of the Russian Federation Olga Shchetinina, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Alexey Antonov, Minister of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Igor Sedykh, Head of the Region’s Labor and Employment Department Igor Pantyukhin, Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management — a branch of RANEPA Ekaterina Lebedeva, Director of the ANO "Public Self-Government of Nizhny Novgorod" Oksana Dektereva, and Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Charitable Public Organization "Zabota" Natalya Simonova. The project lead for "Active Longevity. Nizhny Novgorod Region," Maria Samodelkina, addressed the participants of the new program with a welcoming speech.
The program is being implemented by the Corporate University of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region (KUPNO) from October to December 2025 with the support of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the ANO "Volunteer Center of the Nizhny Novgorod Region," the ANO "Public Self-Government of Nizhny Novgorod," and the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Charitable Public Organization "Zabota." The program’s goal is to create an integrated environment aimed at engaging older people in the economic and social life of the region by unlocking personal potential, supporting health, and ensuring financial well-being. As a result of the selection campaign, 300 participants were chosen from 5,438 applications.
Senator of the Russian Federation Olga Shchetinina emphasized the importance of the program’s social component.
“Out of more than five thousand applications we selected 300 — these are people who are young at heart and not ready to sit still. Behind them are tens of thousands of success stories, thousands of ideas and plans. And they are ready to continue creating, developing and changing the world around them. Participants will have the opportunity to implement their own social project, propose a new program aimed at improving the quality of life of older people, experience the joy of ‘silver’ volunteering or even start their own business. I am confident that each person will discover not only prospects for self-development, but also a huge potential that will help bring benefits to the entire Nizhny Novgorod land,” Olga Shchetinina said.
The program includes four thematic modules: “Regional Opportunities” (regional resources, legal support, employment), “Professional Longevity” (labor market, self-employment, financial literacy), “New Technologies” (working with digital platforms, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity), “Silver Volunteering” (basics of volunteer activity), as well as a cross-cutting module “Active Longevity” (physical and psychological health, creativity, interest clubs). Planned learning formats include seminars, master classes, team work, lectures, interest clubs, and meetings with employers.
Expected effects of the program: increased employment among older people, participants acquiring basic digital skills (working with messengers, mobile applications, marketplaces, the Gosuslugi portal), development of entrepreneurial initiatives, improved financial literacy, and reduced burden on medical institutions through preservation of participants’ cognitive functions. The result of the program will be the creation in the region of an active and engaged community of older people.
According to Maria Samodelkina, there were 18 applicants for each spot in the program selection.
“The ‘Active Longevity’ program is special to me. I don’t have grandparents of my own, but the elderly people — our ‘silver’ volunteers and World War II veterans we work with — have become like grandparents to me. I want to thank our participants — representatives of the older generation — for the example they set for young people, for becoming mentors to them, for their wisdom. Within the framework of the program we have brought together people who are ready to develop for the benefit of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and to contribute to its prosperity. The training will help participants unlock their potential, develop leadership skills, share their rich experience, work and take part in the region’s public life. May our program become a new stage of active and interesting life for each of them!” said Maria Samodelkina.
Based on individual rankings at the end of the program, 100 winners will be selected to receive KUPNO diplomas, and finalists and the most active participants will be presented with certificates and letters of appreciation.
