On September 27, at the Nizhny Novgorod architectural and ethnographic museum-reserve "Shchelokovsky Khutor," the military-sports obstacle race "Avangard" took place. More than 400 people participated in the race: children, students from universities and vocational colleges, as well as labor collectives representing the working youth of Nizhny Novgorod.
Svetlana Anufrieva, Minister of Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, emphasized that such a race is not only about sport but also about testing character. According to her, completing the course to the end, overcoming challenges of varying difficulty, means demonstrating willpower. She also noted that the chosen venue with the natural terrain of Shchelokovsky Khutor itself makes the course more difficult, and the race becomes a place for exchanging experience: professionals share techniques with amateurs, creating an atmosphere of unity.
Participants competed in four categories: "amateurs," "pros," "children," and "team." Each category completed 14 unique challenges that required not only physical fitness but also a well-thought-out strategy. Obstacles ranged from classic running sections to technical elements testing agility and coordination. The team category stood out in particular: student groups and company employees demonstrated endurance, teamwork, and a drive to win.
Acting Executive Director of the Avangard Center for Patriotic Education Aleksandr Ineshin noted that the race is being held for the second year in a row and that this time they tried to make it even more vivid and memorable. He added that in 2024 the program was expanded, new sites appeared, and organization improved so that every participant could fully feel the atmosphere of competition and test their strength.
In addition to the main race, interactive zones were operating: guests recorded messages into a digital time capsule, viewed exhibitions from the Avangard Center and the Russian Search Movement, attended partner-led training sessions, and tried to pass the GTO standards. Creative groups from the city performed for the spectators.
The "Avangard" race became a notable event for Nizhny Novgorod’s youth and served as a reminder that together any obstacle can be overcome. Participants left with not only medals and prizes, but also new experiences, acquaintances, and a boost of energy for future endeavors.
