      In Nizhny Novgorod, plans are underway to form a Council for the Strategic Development of the City. This was announced by Mayor Yuriy Shalabaev in a conversation with journalists on September 29, according to a correspondent for NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."

      As the head of the city clarified, the new body will include representatives of expert communities, deputies of the city Duma, activists and public figures. In addition, he said, the possibility of including representatives of Nizhny Novgorod media in the council is being considered.

      According to Shalabaev, the council's key task is to develop a strategy oriented toward the real needs of the city's residents.

      "It will be a strategy born from the demands of the people themselves and aimed at improving their quality of life. We have already conducted sociological studies to understand which problems concern Nizhny Novgorod residents. Today the main thing is not large-scale projects for the sake of projects and not economic growth for its own sake. All of this is merely a set of tools to raise the standard of living of each resident," the mayor emphasized.

      He also noted that in the coming years the priority should be developing Nizhny Novgorod as a modern metropolis where the industrial base, a comfortable environment, preservation of cultural heritage and the introduction of advanced solutions in urban management harmoniously combine.

      Earlier it was reported that personnel reshuffles in the Nizhny Novgorod mayor's office are not ruled out.
