      Representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” Fund, as part of a comprehensive support program for participants of the special military operation (SMO) who have become disabled, handed over to an SMO veteran, first-group disabled Alexander from Gorodets a modern multifunctional wheelchair. The chair is equipped with advanced technical solutions: it reaches speeds up to 8 km/h, has a range of up to 30 km, is fitted with headlights and turn signals for safe travel around the city, and also features a stair-climbing function and a retractable platform that allows reaching goods on upper shelves in stores. Thanks to these capabilities, everyday tasks — a trip to the store, a walk in the park or running personal errands — become not only achievable but comfortable.

      “I am gradually returning to life and am very grateful to everyone who helps me. Special words of thanks to the foundation’s staff and social coordinator Elena,” Alexander shared.

      SMO veterans are constantly assisted in social adaptation to civilian life by social coordinators of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” Fund.

      “Supporting veterans is one of the key areas of activity of the ‘Defenders of the Fatherland’ Fund. The provision of technical rehabilitation aids is carried out within the framework of a comprehensive program of social adaptation and reintegration of SMO participants, aimed at restoring their physical, psychological and social activity,” said the head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” Fund, Ekaterina Generalova.

      Reference: The State Fund “Defenders of the Fatherland” was created by Decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Its main goal is the personal support of SMO veterans and the families of heroes. The fund’s specialists and social coordinators help defenders not only with medical and social rehabilitation, but also with retraining and employment, provide legal support, adapt housing to the needs of people with disabilities and provide long-term in-home care.

      The fund is headed by the State Secretary — Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Anna Tsivileva. The fund’s branches operate in all regions of Russia.
