From September 22 to 28, 78 road traffic accidents with casualties occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the press service of the regional traffic police department reported.
As a result of the crashes, nine people were killed and another 92 sustained various injuries. Among the injured were seven minors.
According to the agency, the most common causes of the accidents were driving into oncoming traffic, speeding, and violations at pedestrian crossings.
In addition, since the beginning of September traffic police officers have removed from operating vehicles 876 drivers who were under the influence of alcohol. Of these, 93 people were detained for repeat offenses.
Earlier it was reported that on September 28 a mass traffic accident involving a route bus occurred in Nizhny Novgorod. The Investigative Committee’s department for the Nizhny Novgorod Region has launched a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
