Nizhny Novgorod's "Marching Orchestra" was named the best at the international competition for children's wind orchestras.
The combined orchestra of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, "Marching Orchestra," became the winner of the international competition "Under the Sounds of the Wind Orchestra." The organizers of the competition were the Ministry of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the regional center "Vega." More than 600 young musicians from Russia and the Republic of Belarus took part in it.
The competition was held in two stages: a qualifying stage, during which participants could send video recordings of their performances throughout the summer, and a final stage, in which children's music ensembles performed live on the main stage in Switzerland Park. The award ceremony for the winners took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair.
Eighteen children's wind orchestras performed in the final stage: 13 from various municipalities of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, two from Donetsk, and one orchestra each from Vladimir, Kashira (Moscow Region), and Minsk (Republic of Belarus).
"The competition 'Under the Sounds of the Wind Orchestra' provides a unique opportunity for young talents to demonstrate their abilities, and for teachers to present the results of their pedagogical work at a high level. Each year the competition becomes larger in scale, attracting participants from various regions and expanding its boundaries. This not only contributes to the development of musical art but also creates a platform for the exchange of experience and inspiration among musicians and teachers. Participation in such a competition can become an important step in the careers of young musicians and help them find their place in the world of music," said Mikhail Puchkov, Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
As a result of the final creative competitions, in addition to the main winner, first-degree laureate diplomas were awarded to five orchestras: from Minsk, Vladimir, Kashira, Pavlovo (Nizhny Novgorod Region) and Donetsk. Second-degree laureate diplomas were awarded to six orchestras: from Bogorodsk, Arzamas, Donetsk, Pavlovo and two orchestras from Dzerzhinsk. Third-degree laureate diplomas were awarded to five orchestras: from Sosnovskoye, Vacha, Vyksa, Vorsma and Pavlovo.
"This year the competition acquired listed status, which means that winners will be able to receive additional points when applying to specialized higher education institutions. This is truly valuable," noted Irina Zinovyeva, director of the regional center "Vega."
The development of supplementary education aimed at identifying and supporting talents in the younger generation is one of the priorities of the work of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region within the framework of the national project "Youth and Children."
The new national project has been implemented on the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, since 2025. It includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia — a Land of Opportunities," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for a Generation of Leaders," and "Professionalitet."
