Authorities of the Nizhny Novgorod Region have prepared a bill to abolish a settlement in the Shatkovsky District. The document has been submitted to the region's Legislative Assembly.
The document concerns the settlement of Lesogorsk station, which is located in the administrative-territorial formation of the urban-type settlement of the same name.
The basis for this decision was the complete absence of population and registered property in the locality since 2003.
As stated in the explanatory note to the bill, in April 2025 the Council of Deputies of the Shatkovsky municipal district initiated the abolition of the settlement. A special commission was created, which conducted an inspection and concluded that restoring the settlement was unpromising.
If the project is approved, the settlement will officially disappear from the list of the region's localities as of 1 January 2026.
Earlier it was reported that the region plans to abolish the rural settlement of Pishtan in the Sharangsky District. The bill has also been submitted to the Legislative Assembly. In early August the village of Pestryakovo in the Gorodetsky District disappeared from the map of the Nizhny Novgorod Region (it was merged into the village of Brilyakovo). And in May the settlement Shkolny of the Purekhovsky village council in Chkalovsk was liquidated, where no one had lived for more than two decades.
In total, from 2003 to 2024, 119 settlements were abolished in the region, while only four new ones were created. It should also be added that, according to the 2020 census, 834 localities in the region were uninhabited.
