A large-scale educational project called "Heroes of the Motherland" has begun operating in the Nizhny Novgorod region, aimed at patriotic education of youth through real stories of defenders of the Fatherland. The initiative launched on September 1, Knowledge Day, and has covered 15 educational institutions in the region.
The project is being implemented with the support of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional branch of the "Volunteers of Victory" movement, and the creators of the "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" initiative. Its goal is to show schoolchildren and students examples of courage and selflessness through the stories of participants of the Great Patriotic War, the special military operation, and other armed conflicts.
As part of the ceremonial opening, "Lessons of Courage" were held in schools and colleges, attended by SVO veterans and contemporary heroes. They spoke to students, shared personal experiences, talked about service, overcoming fear, and the meaning of patriotism.
At Gymnasium No. 184, recipient of two Orders of Courage Alexander Molgachev spoke. He noted that participating in the project helps pass important values on to young people:
"I spoke with the children, told them about the special operation, about the courage and heroism of its participants, shared thoughts on what fear is and how to overcome it. I believe that such a project will help foster a sense of patriotism and pride in our country among the younger generation. Just as for us, participants of the project 'Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region', the experience gained in the SVO and the qualities acquired there will help us realize ourselves in public service," he said.
At the Nizhny Novgorod Polytechnic College named after Hero of the Soviet Union A.P. Rudnev, there was a meeting with Vladislav Dalekin, who was awarded the Medal "For Courage" and the St. George's Cross, 4th class. Students of School No. 20 spoke with Dmitry Serov, holder of the medals "For Combat Distinction" and "For Participant in the Special Military Operation." At School No. 115, Mikhail Kryukov, a holder of the Medal "For Merit to the Fatherland" II class, spoke to the students.
Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of "Volunteers of Victory," emphasized that the project is built on live communication and personal stories:
"'Heroes of the Motherland' is a project that connects the past, present and future. A live dialogue between generations is extremely important to us. Children must understand that heroes live among us and that heroism is not something abstract but real deeds of real people. This is the only way patriotism is nurtured — through living examples. We give the kids a unique opportunity to see contemporary heroes, hear their stories, ask any questions, even uncomfortable ones, and understand that values such as courage and love for the Motherland are timeless."
The project will continue until the end of the academic year. Ahead of schoolchildren and students of the Nizhny Novgorod region are new meetings with heroes, master classes, lectures from historians and experts, as well as quests and intellectual games. All events are aimed at introducing young people to the history of the region and the country in an interactive and accessible way, and at forming their respect for the feat of the defenders of the Fatherland.
It was previously reported that participants of the "Time of the First. First among the First" shift in the Nizhny Novgorod region presented more than 60 of their own projects.
