Four more localities in the Nizhny Novgorod Region have taken up the baton of the regional marathon "We're for a Healthy Lifestyle!"

      Four more localities in the Nizhny Novgorod Region took up the baton of the regional marathon “We Are for a Healthy Lifestyle!”. From August 27 to 30, themed events were held in Chkalovsk, the urban-type settlement Voskresenskoye, Arzamas and Zavolzhye. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Health.

      According to the department, to date the large-scale health campaign has already covered 19 municipal districts and several thousand residents of the region.

      The main task of the marathon is to increase the accessibility of medical care. In Chkalovsk, Voskresenskoye, Arzamas and Zavolzhye medical workers conducted more than 1,600 medical tests and doctor consultations. For this purpose, mobile medical complexes and “health tents” were organized, where specialist doctors received patients.

      Over the four days of the “We Are for a Healthy Lifestyle!” marathon, more than 300 people underwent electrocardiographic examinations and received cardiologists’ consultations in the cardio mobile units.

      At the same time, therapists, pediatricians, neurologists, endocrinologists, dermatologists and psychologists were working in the “health tents.” Among them were specialists both from leading Nizhny Novgorod medical organizations and from local central district hospitals. In total, the medical staff consulted more than 1,300 patients.

      Residents of Nizhny Novgorod were offered blood pressure measurements, fundus examinations, blood tests for sugar and cholesterol levels, determination of anthropometric indicators and calculation of body mass index. Marathon participants also had the opportunity to take a rapid HIV test.

      As Natalya Savitskaya, chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention, noted, “We Are for a Healthy Lifestyle!” is not only medical testing. The key goal of the initiative is to promote a healthy lifestyle.

      Marathon participants can talk with experts and receive comprehensive information on the principles of proper nutrition, the importance of physical activity and other aspects of a healthy lifestyle. Family triathlon, passing the GTO standards and other sports competitions are another integral part of the marathon.

      “Our marathon is drawing to a close. Over the course of six months it was successfully held in nineteen districts of our region and allowed thousands of Nizhny Novgorod residents to undergo free medical examinations, receive necessary doctors’ consultations and learn a lot of useful information about a healthy lifestyle. This is a significant contribution to strengthening people’s health, increasing their awareness of the importance of prevention and commitment to a healthy lifestyle,” summarized Natalya Savitskaya.

      The regional Ministry of Health reminded that preventive work with residents is a crucial component of the national project “Long and Active Life,” which has been implemented in the country since 2025 at the instruction of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The new national project carries out tasks previously provided for in the national project “Healthcare.” It is aimed at the expected increase in life expectancy by 2030 and envisages further renovation of polyclinics, outpatient clinics, feldsher-midwife stations, attracting an ever greater number of qualified medical personnel to medical institutions, applying new approaches in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, improving emergency medical care and the rehabilitation system, developing a network of national research centers, and digitalizing the sector.
