      Sport hockey club "Torpedo-Gorky" squandered a win in a shootout against "Metallurg", the team's website reports.

      Before the start of the new season Torpedo-Gorky was strengthened by players from the main squad. Defenseman Arseny Varlakov, as well as forwards Roman Opalev and Ilya Chefanov, who recently played for Torpedo in the Mayor of Moscow Cup, this time took to the ice as members of the reigning national champion.

      The match began with encouraging activity from the Nizhny Novgorod side. Soon the puck was in the opponent's net, but the joy proved premature — the referees disallowed the goal. The reason was hand play by Andrey Krutov while finishing a rebound after Anton Kosolapov's unsuccessful one-on-one attempt.

      The hosts continued to increase the pressure and launched several promising attacks, but the guests' goalkeeper Nikita Podskrebalin dealt with all the threats.

      In the second period the game became more balanced. Closer to its middle, Metallurg capitalized on a gross defensive mistake by the Gorky players. Zakhar Shablovsky created the chance, and Dmitry Sheshin calmly converted it — 0:1. The conceded goal broke the Nizhny Novgorod side's momentum, and they were unable to regain their earlier pace before the end of the period.

      In the third period Torpedo-Gorky noticeably stepped up. The team threw everything into attacking Kuznya's goal, forcing the opponent to play defensively. The persistence paid off — in the 57th minute, during a power play, Matvey Utkin put the puck into the net from close range. The score was level — 1:1.

      Overtime did not produce a winner, and everything was decided in a shootout. The visitors were more accurate there. The winning shot was taken by former Nizhny Novgorod player Vladislav Kodola — 1:2.

      The next match (6+) for the Gorky side will be held on September 7 at their home rink. They will face Tula's AKM.

      It was reported that HC Torpedo-Gorky won the preseason tournament in memory of Moiseev.
