The new tram of the "Wagon of Victory" project has started running in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Society: In Nizhny Novgorod, a new themed tram went into service on route No. 12 as part of the patriotic project "Wagon of Victory." Its exhibit is dedicated to the labor feats of Gorky enterprises during the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the NRO of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory."

      The tram's design tells of the contribution of two key plants — Krasnoye Sormovo and Sokol. These enterprises supplied the front with equipment, shells and aircraft, playing an important role in achieving Victory.

      One side of the tram is devoted to the Krasnoye Sormovo plant, which retooled production for military equipment within a month and a half. During the war more than 13,000 T-34 tanks were assembled there, and 27 submarines were built — almost half of the entire Soviet submarine fleet at the time. In addition, workers returned more than 1,800 damaged tanks to service. For these merits the plant was awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st class.

      "The people of Sormovo were and remain patriots of their country and their city. The enterprise carefully preserves the memory of its heroic history. And we are glad that thanks to the Volunteers of Victory project, hundreds of our fellow townspeople will remember this history every day. An excellent and necessary project!" said Margarita Finyukova, deputy director of the Krasnoye Sormovo Plant History Museum.

      The second part of the exhibit is devoted to the Sokol aircraft plant, where LaGG-3, La-5 and La-7 fighters were mass-produced during the war. In 1941 the plant was producing 24 aircraft a day. One in four Soviet fighters was assembled in Gorky.

      "The 'Wagon of Victory' project helps people connect with the glorious and heroic history of our city, which by presidential decree bears the high title of City of Labor Glory. People worked 12-hour shifts in conditions of cold and hunger to supply the front with everything needed in a short time. It is our duty to preserve this memory, especially for young people," emphasized Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the movement "Volunteers of Victory."

      This is already the second Victory tram on route No. 12. The first began running in August. Its interior contains materials about four outstanding fellow townsmen: twice Hero of the Soviet Union Arseny Vorozheykin, Lieutenant General of Aviation Vasily Ryazanov, torpedo electrician Yevgeny Nikonov and political officer of the naval infantry Nikolai Filchenkov.

      In total, by 2025 the Nizhny Novgorod region plans to launch 14 trams and 5 metro cars with historical exhibits.
