More than 400 children from the region’s social institutions attended the “First-Class Festival of Wonders” on the eve of the Day of Knowledge.

Last weekend a large-scale celebration for orphans and children in difficult life situations took place at 1st of May Park in Nizhny Novgorod. The "First-Grade Festival of Wonders" brought together about 400 children. The event was organized by the Ministry of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the administration of the Kanavinsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, the Directorate of Parks and Squares of Nizhny Novgorod, and the charitable foundation "Nizhegorodsky."
According to the ministry, gifts were given to the children ahead of the new school year — school kits, stationery and backpacks. In addition, five low-income families received cash certificates that can be used to pay for rehabilitation services for children with cerebral palsy.
"Showing care for children is our duty and social responsibility. Unfortunately, parents cannot always provide the necessary rehabilitation treatment or gather everything needed for school. We want every child, regardless of circumstances, to feel protected, needed and to go to school with joy and confidence in their abilities," said Elena Leonova, Deputy Minister of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The centerpiece of the festival was a concert featuring creative ensembles and performers from across the region.
The program included performances by pupils from two regional orphanages, ensembles from music schools and educational institutions of the Kanavinsky District, as well as the children's vocal theater "LIRA." Guests were shown circus acts by the juggling school "Jagl" and the exemplary circus studio "Raduga" from Arzamas. To conclude the celebration there were performances by pupils of the producer center "Otkrytie" and finalist of the show "Golos. Deti" (The Voice Kids), Denis Makarov.
The Ministry of Social Policy invited representatives of partner organizations to participate in the celebration, including socially oriented NGOs. They prepared and ran master classes and games for the children, organized refreshments and quizzes with prizes.
Interactive zones were operating throughout the festival grounds. Together with representatives of ANO "Khuliganodom" the children could make individual bracelets, work with modeling clay and create origami crafts, as well as experiment with face painting.
"For our team, the 'First-Grade Festival of Wonders' is more than a celebration. It is an opportunity to create a truly magical back-to-school atmosphere for children who especially need support. Seeing their shining eyes is the best reward for our efforts," said Yeva Faminskaya, head of the charitable foundation "Nizhegorodsky."
Recall that support for families with children and the strengthening of family values in the country is one of the most important directions of work within the framework of the new national project "Family." The new national project has been implemented in Russia since 2025 at the initiative of President Vladimir Putin. It succeeds the previously implemented national projects "Demography" and "Culture."
