Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has emerged among the leaders among Russian regions in terms of the rate of increase in the average number of storeys of residential buildings erected from 2015 to 2025, RBC reports.

Over the decade the average storey count of new buildings in the region increased by almost 7 storeys, reaching 17.81 storeys. This is one of the most noticeable jumps among the country's federal subjects. By comparison, across Russia on average over the same period new buildings became about 4 storeys taller.

The largest increase in storeys was recorded in Moscow — almost 12 storeys. By 2025 the average height of new buildings in the capital will reach 31.15 storeys.

Significant changes were also observed in Astrakhan Oblast and Ingushetia. There the increase amounted to almost 8 storeys, to 20.86 and 17.43 respectively.

At the same time, storey counts have fallen since 2015 in only 12 regions of the country, which is about 13% of the total number of federal subjects. In most cases the decrease was no more than one storey.

It was previously reported that high housing prices in Nizhny Novgorod were explained by increased demand.

It also became known that in July interest in new buildings grew in the Volga capital.
