      The Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, congratulated the region’s residents on the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation.

      He reminded that the Russian tricolor is not just a state symbol, but an invaluable national treasure that reflects the country’s more than three-hundred-year history. According to the head of the region, for everyone born and living in Russia, the flag is a symbol of pride and of belonging to a great power.

      Nikitin emphasized that the white‑blue‑red banner first appeared in the Petrine era and has accompanied Russians through the most important moments in history ever since. He noted that under this flag ancestors defended the homeland, and today fighters in the liberated territories first and foremost hoist the tricolor.

      The governor also added that the flag remains an essential attribute of national holidays, celebrations, rallies, sporting events and military ceremonies.

      "And the Russian tricolor is also one of the most recognizable flags in the world. The soul of every Russian is filled with deep pride when our athletes step onto the winners’ podium!" the governor said.
