Digitalization is becoming an integral part of the sustainable development of Russian cities. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Office of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko at the forum "Development of Small Towns and Historic Settlements."

According to him, modern approaches to territorial development are impossible without the active implementation of high-tech solutions. Among the key directions are artificial intelligence, intelligent transport systems, digital government services and biometric technologies.

One example of the practical application of innovations is a pilot project in Tatarstan. A biometric-based safe-access system is being implemented in twenty schools in the republic. It is intended to replace traditional plastic cards and paper passes.

Grigorenko emphasized that participation in the project is entirely voluntary: the decision to connect to the system is made by the students themselves and their parents. The new technology not only prevents passes from being lost or passed on to third parties, but also significantly improves safety in educational institutions. Parents will be able to know for sure that their child is at school, and attendance control will become more transparent.

The system being implemented was developed using Russian software and hardware solutions that have been certified and approved by the relevant regulators. It is integrated into the Unified Biometric System — a state platform that is already used in a number of digital services, including fare payment, remote business registration, hotel check-in without a passport and other services.

Special attention is paid to the protection of personal data. Biometric information is stored in encrypted form and is not linked with other personal data. Users retain full control over their biometric data — on the Gosuslugi portal they can at any time check its status or withdraw consent for its use.

It was previously reported that schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region will switch from "Sferum" to the new national messenger Max.
