At a meeting of the Legislative Assembly’s Committee on Social Issues, deputies discussed the results of the State Final Certification (GIA) of 9th- and 11th-grade graduates in 2025.

This year, more than 13.5 thousand 11th-graders and over 34 thousand 9th-graders took the GIA. The most popular elective subjects among 11th-grade graduates were profile-level mathematics, social studies, and computer science. Among ninth-graders, in addition to these subjects, there was traditionally strong interest in biology and geography.

“When comparing the Unified State Exam (USE) results with nationwide figures, Nizhny Novgorod graduates showed higher results in most subjects. For certain subjects, the region’s average score turned out to be slightly below the national average. The analysis of OGE results was conducted in comparison with the previous year: progress was achieved in six subjects, while indicators slightly declined in five,” said Natalya Smotrakova, chair of the regional parliament’s Committee on Social Issues.

Deputies drew attention to the need for a thorough analysis of the reasons for declines in certain subjects in order to develop concrete measures to maintain and raise the level of knowledge.

In 2025, the region recorded 139 perfect scores on the USE. Seven graduates were able to achieve the maximum score in two subjects. Chemistry led in the number of top scores — 52 students achieved a maximum score in this subject.

Additionally, for the first time this year, additional days for retaking the USE were organized for graduates — July 3 and 4. Approximately 2.8 thousand of this year’s graduates took the opportunity to improve their results in any subject, and more than 75% of them were able to raise their scores.

The meeting also noted that all examination centers were equipped with video surveillance systems and metal detectors. Nearly 1,000 public observers monitored the USE process, more than half of whom were representatives of the parent community.

Summing up, deputies noted that the 2025 examination campaign concluded stably, despite its complexity and scale. The main task for the next academic year will be targeted work to improve the quality of education in the subjects that showed declines, in order to further strengthen Nizhny Novgorod Oblast’s position at the national level.

“Seven students with perfect scores in two subjects and 139 top results on the USE — this is a serious achievement. However, the numbers are also a call to work: in three subjects we did not reach the national average. Our task for the coming year is, together with the regional government, to understand the causes and to selectively strengthen preparation in these areas so that the potential of every Nizhny Novgorod schoolchild is fully realized,” said Evgeny Lyulin, chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
