      Incidents

      In Nizhny Novgorod, a 41-year-old native of Kaliningrad has been detained on suspicion of the brutal murder of two people.

      According to investigators, the crime occurred in August in an apartment on Raevskogo Street.

      The man, previously convicted of murder and theft, was renting a room from the 51-year-old owner of the apartment. During an argument with her and her 70-year-old partner, he stabbed both in the neck and then decapitated the bodies.

      To conceal the crime, the suspect carried parts of the bodies out of the apartment and hid them in a garage compound. After that he fled.

      The victims were discovered on the night of 19 August after a neighbor smelled a strong odor coming from the apartment. Responding officers found the decapitated bodies of a man and a woman in the cluttered premises.

      Acting swiftly, criminal investigation officers detained the suspect in an abandoned building on Genkina Street. A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under paragraph "a" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — murder of two persons.

      Investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region continue to collect evidence and establish all the circumstances of the incident. The progress of the investigation is being supervised by the prosecutor's office. The court will decide on a pretrial measure for the suspect in the near future.

      Earlier it was reported that a 65-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod was sentenced to 12 years for an intentional murder committed with particular cruelty.
