      On August 19, the first competitions for the "Defenders of the Fatherland Cup" of the Volga Federal District began at the Parus Center in Dzerzhinsk. At the ceremonial opening ceremony, the competitors were greeted by the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Evgeny Lyulin, as well as the head of the Paralympic Committee of Russia, Pavel Rozhkov, the deputy governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Andrey Gneushev, and Hero of Russia Rustam Saifullin.

      In his speech, Evgeny Lyulin noted that each of the competition participants is a true example of courage. They have gone through the hell of combat, and today, despite severe injuries, are storming sporting heights — he later also wrote this on his social media.

      "I watched the teams march with flags at the opening ceremony, and my heart was filled with pride. Unbending! Invincible! People of steel! They are not competing for medals: each has a whole collection. For courage! For services to the Fatherland! For military valor! For bravery! Orders of Courage. Now they are overcoming themselves, setting an example for us," emphasized Evgeny Lyulin.

      The speaker of the regional parliament also noted that work has been underway for many years to make Dzerzhinsk the center of adaptive sports in Russia. Today it is receiving the highest recognition. For now, the Cup program includes only seven sports disciplines, but sledge hockey, football, swimming and other events may soon be added. All the conditions for this have been created at the Parus Center. Through sport we help the rehabilitation of the heroes of the special military operation (SMO), and they become idols for young people, and that is wonderful, emphasized Evgeny Lyulin.

      "Among the tournament participants are not only newcomers, but also those who are members of their regional teams, who win at all-Russian competitions, who compete for the national teams. I wholeheartedly wish them success in overcoming themselves, their ailments, and in realizing themselves in peaceful civilian life," said the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
