Sale of water in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast: 13 million violations found

      The Nizhny Novgorod region entered the top three regions with the largest number of intercepted violations in the sale of bottled water in the second quarter of 2025. This was reported by the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies.

      According to the state labeling system "Honest Sign", more than 13 million attempts to sell products with violations were recorded in the region during this period.

      Most violations occurred in small retail — small shops and kiosks. The system automatically detects labeling discrepancies, including counterfeits and incorrect registration, and blocks the sale of such products at the checkout.

      The main share of violations was expired water. There were 7.2 million such cases, accounting for 55% of the total number of blocks. In second place were incorrect verification codes, suggesting suspected counterfeiting (5.5 million cases). Third were signs of counterfeiting, which were detected in more than 230 thousand cases.

      The fewest blocks were related to Rospotrebnadzor orders — only 9 refusals for the quarter. These cases concerned individual batches of imported water deemed potentially dangerous to health and blocked back in February 2024.

      Notably, the number of detected violations in the region rose sharply: in the first quarter of 2025 the system detected only 2.5 million units of product with violations — 5.2 times fewer than in the second.

      Based on second-quarter results, the Nizhny Novgorod region ranked third in the country by number of intercepted violations, behind only Moscow (16.3 million) and St. Petersburg (5.5 million).

      Earlier it was reported that more than 155 kilograms of dangerous meat were seized in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
