VTB and the PIK Group carried out the first transaction using the digital ruble. A bank client reserved an apartment in the Novoye Ochakovo residential complex in Moscow, making the payment in the digital national currency. The process consisted of several stages. Prior to this, the buyer and the developer obtained regulator approval to carry out settlements in the digital currency and opened accounts on the Bank of Russia’s digital ruble platform via VTB Online. After selecting the property, the buyer paid for the reservation using a QR code in VTB’s mobile app.

"The successful transaction with PIK conducted using the digital ruble is an important step toward creating a modern and efficient financial infrastructure in Russia. We see tremendous potential in the digital ruble for increasing the transparency of settlements, reducing transaction costs, and developing innovative financial services. VTB intends to actively develop its expertise in this area and cooperate with the Bank of Russia to further introduce the digital ruble into the country’s economy," said Alexander Pakhomov, Deputy President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB.

He added that the bank plans to continue actively developing the infrastructure for working with the digital ruble and to offer its clients new products and services based on the use of the digital national currency in the future.
