The chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region’s Committee on Housing and Communal Services and the Fuel and Energy Complex, Vladimir Bespalov, together with the Deputy Chair of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Ekaterina Solntseva, visited Zavolzhye, where they toured the Flyg + Hommel enterprise.
The visit took place as part of the implementation of an agreement between the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (NNGASU). Thanks to the joint work of the relevant committee and the university, NNGASU has established a modern laboratory studying thermomechanical and thermal engineering processes, the developments of which have already been incorporated into educational programs, including those for the utilities sector. Also, with active participation from the Legislative Assembly, a laboratory for thermal engineering measurements was opened at the university, equipped with specialized equipment to prepare students to work with the heat supply systems of apartment buildings.
The plant produces a unique product — water-based infrared emitters for radiant heating systems, which can be used in production facilities, workshops, sports halls, office premises, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, and livestock facilities. The technology was developed in cooperation with scientists from NNGASU. The use of radiant heating systems provides a uniform temperature regime in a space and saves on building heating costs.
“Together with the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and NNGASU, the committee on housing and communal services and the fuel and energy complex addresses the development of scientific potential and its practical application. Flyg + Hommel is an excellent example of cooperation between science and industry. The use of infrared heating for industrial and office premises has proven to be significantly more effective than traditional technologies. Such cooperation between science, education and production opens up new prospects in energy-saving technologies, offering not only a comfortable but also an economically advantageous method of heating. It is important that the company is ready to share its experience. This kind of symbiosis of science and practice will certainly lead to the development of even more advanced solutions in the field of heat supply,” Vladimir Bespalov said.
“Our radiant heating systems operate all across Russia — from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad. They are successfully used in Yekaterinburg, Izhevsk, the Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow regions. All clients note high efficiency, and company employees note a comfortable microclimate at their workplaces. Five years of implementation have proven that the technology can reduce heating costs by up to 40%, which is especially appreciated by production managers. Unlike classic convective systems, which heat the air and create the problem of overheating under the ceiling in tall shops (10–12 meters), our infrared emitters work on the principle of solar heat — first they heat surfaces, equipment and people, and only then the air. This provides an immediate sensation of warmth for staff, like being in the sun, while maintaining full safety of the technology,” said Alexander Smykov, Director of the Department of Strategic Development at NNGASU and Head of the Radiant Heating Laboratory (Educational-Scientific-Research Center “Heating Systems Using Low-Temperature Infrared Emitters”).
