A former police officer will be tried for a fatal traffic accident in Buturlino.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the investigation of a criminal case against a former police officer accused of fatally running over a woman has been completed, the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported.

      According to the investigation, the tragedy occurred in June 2025 in the settlement of Buturlino. In the morning on Lenina Street, a man who had previously served in the Knyaginin interdistrict police department, while driving his private car, struck a woman who was crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. The victim died at the scene from her injuries.

      It turned out that at the time of the accident the driver did not have a Category B driver's license permitting him to operate a passenger car.

      Investigators collected sufficient evidence to confirm the former police officer's guilt. He has been charged under the article on violation of traffic rules that resulted in the negligent death of a person, committed by a person not entitled to drive a vehicle.

      The criminal case, with an indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office, has been forwarded to court. It will be heard on the merits in the near future.

      Earlier it was reported that in the settlement of Gavrilovka in Dzerzhinsk a route bus struck a woman and a 4-year-old child.
