      Every day there is more news about the new domestic messenger MAX, which is intended to replace all other similar apps for Russians. The developers promise high-quality and fast communication anywhere, as well as entirely new features that competitors do not have. So why are more and more Russian users choosing MAX?

      What is it?

      MAX is a new messenger developed by VK. It allows sending text messages, photos, videos and documents up to 4 GB in size. Both private and group chats are supported. Audio and video calls are also available and work stably even with a weak connection. In general, the functionality is similar to all comparable applications.

      The app can be used on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and in a browser. It can be downloaded via the App Store, Google Play, RuStore and AppGallery. The MAX platform is not limited to just the messenger. The app has an integrated system of mini-apps and tools for creating chatbots. Companies will be able to launch their own services (from customer support to online stores) using a builder or via an API.

      Simple registration and state services

      To get started with MAX, it is enough to enter a mobile phone number. After SMS confirmation, the user is prompted to enter a name and upload an avatar. Adding contacts is possible via the phone book, by number, link or QR code.

      In the future, the developers plan to integrate with Gosuslugi (the State Services portal). This could allow verifying profiles using official documents and using the messenger to access government services. This is not only convenient but will also help reduce remote fraud.

      Free neural network and security

      One notable feature of MAX is the built-in neural network. It can convert voice to text, create images, write texts, generate plans and answer questions. All these functions are available directly in the chat, without the need to switch between apps.

      The issue of data protection in MAX is addressed through end-to-end encryption. According to the developers, only the sender and recipient have access to the correspondence. Spam filtering mechanisms, protection against phishing and the ability to limit who can send messages or invite people to chats have also been implemented.

      What’s next?

      The beta version of MAX was launched in March 2025. The presentation of the new messenger MAX is planned for early autumn, but the app has already attracted more than a million users. The developers position MAX as a digital platform that over time will combine not only communication but also access to a variety of services — from paying utility bills to food delivery. In this sense, the messenger could become the Russian equivalent of China’s WeChat.
