SocietyThe authorities of Guangdong Province in China have introduced additional sanitary measures to combat the chikungunya virus: medical certificates are now required when purchasing medication, and patient data are transmitted to health authorities.

The chikungunya virus is transmitted through mosquito bites, causing high fever, severe joint pain, and rashes. In Foshan city, for example, over 7,000 cases have been registered in the past month.

There are no confirmed cases in Russia so far, said Yekaterina Kulova, an infectious disease specialist from Nizhny Novgorod, to Channel "360." She noted that Rospotrebnadzor is working to prevent the possible importation of the virus into the country. If necessary, restrictions on entry at airports and seaports may be implemented.

Kulova emphasized that the virus cannot spread rapidly because airplanes are thoroughly disinfected, and mosquitoes cannot easily enter the country. However, she did not rule out other transmission methods, such as airborne transmission from an infected person.

Regarding vaccination, Kulova replied that it is not currently required and it is unknown if it will be necessary in the future. As a preventive measure, she recommended following standard safety precautions—avoiding contact with sick people and maintaining good hygiene.

The expert expressed hope that the virus will pass by Russia, as many other infections have done, without serious consequences for the country.

Rospotrebnadzor confirmed that there are no cases of infection in Russia and noted that the situation is under control. The agency monitors data on the virus in China and uses the "Perimeter" system to identify suspicious cases at the border.

Previously, Yekaterina Kulova spoke about preventive measures against dirofilariasis.
