The Water Circus will show unique numbers to Nizhny Novgorod residents
Water Circus begins its tour in Nizhny Novgorod. It will present the program "The Kingdom of Fountains," based on Russian fairy tales. Nizhny Novgorod residents will see the show first, as it has only been showcased so far in Omsk and Nizhny Tagil. The program features 25 acts. Selected snippets were shown to Nizhny Novgorod journalists.
Performers work in the air, in the water, and on a stage assembled on the surface of a large pool. The pool has a diameter of 12.5 meters and a depth of 1.6 meters. A total of 140 tons of water are used. According to the artistic director and technical supervisor of the Water Circus, Sergei Voloshin, filling the pool takes up to 10 hours. "The water temperature is 34 degrees Celsius. The performers are in the water for up to 40 minutes. It must be comfortable for them, considering there may be drafts in the hall," said Sergei Voloshin.
In-water acrobat Ilya Drebort-Chikovani shared that, in his opinion, working in water is more challenging than on land. "Water gets into your eyes and ears, and you can’t hear the music. Plus, you need to know who’s swimming where to avoid collisions, and there are 12 of us working in the water. It’s almost done blindly," he explained the preparation process. "Fountains make the work more complicated. It’s also slippery. Everything is rehearsed over a long period. But despite all the difficulties, we go to work to enjoy it. We aim to delight the audience, and we love doing it."
By the way, the fountains can rise up to eight meters high. The "Gallea" act is performed entirely in the air. It is unique: a male artist holds five women in his teeth. "The girls perform 'male' tricks, which not all men can even pull off," shared the act's director, Yaroslavna Vodyanik.
Overall, Sergei Voloshin stated about the program: "We will showcase Russian character, heroic strength, and the victory of good over evil." The audience will also see animals: sea lions, chimpanzees, baboons, crocodiles, snakes, and a porcupine. Parrots will wait for them in the paradise garden. The premiere of the "Kingdom of Fountains" program will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Circus on August 2nd.
