"Heroes Among Us": how Nizhny Novgorod will celebrate its 804th anniversary

      EventAnnouncement: Concept for the celebration of the 804th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod — "Heroes Among Us." This was announced by the city administration’s press service.

      According to Mayor Yuri Shalabaev, the idea behind the celebration emphasizes the importance of people who daily make the city better through their work.

      "Heroism is not only about feats on the battlefield but also includes the work of doctors, teachers, volunteers, rescuers, builders, parents, and youth. All those who honestly perform their duties and contribute to the development of Nizhny," Shalabaev noted.

      He added that the festive program will pay special attention to participants of the SVO and veterans — with dedicated venues and events prepared for them.

      Minin Square Will Be the Center of the Celebration

      As reported by the Department of Culture, preparations for the celebration are underway in an active phase. The main events will take place on August 16 at Minin and Pozharsky Squares. By Monday, the installation of the main stage will begin at this location.

      The unique stage structure will be impressive, measuring 36 meters wide, 13 meters high, and 12 meters deep. It will take approximately a week to assemble.

      Show Visible and Audible to All

      Director of the Department of Culture, Svetlana Gulyaeva, emphasized that City Day is a celebration with deep meaning that unites Nizhny Novgorod residents.

      "It’s always about history, memory, patriotism, and love for our city. It’s another opportunity to showcase its most beautiful and beloved spots to residents and visitors," she said.

      According to her, Minin Square traditionally gathers the most spectators, so it’s important that everyone can comfortably view the events. To facilitate this, the show will be broadcast on a large screen on the stage, and an additional screen will be installed near Dmitrievskaya Tower.

      Modern sound equipment will ensure high-quality audio throughout the square, regardless of where spectators are located.

      When Everything Will Be Ready

      Most of the stage will be installed by August 10. After that, additional equipment will be set up, and the space for viewers will be arranged.
